Strategic Writer: Episode 6

Look at all the sources you have for blog content!
Look at all the sources you have for blog content!

The kiss of death for maintaining a consistent blog is lacking sufficient content. However, for most businesses, organizations, and influencers, this isn't actually a problem. If you have:

  • social media posts,

  • videos and podcasts,

  • slide presentations (who doesn't have old PowerPoints?!), or

  • case studies, white papers or other reports,

you already possess a wealth of content ready to be transformed into blog posts!

Repurposing Social Media Posts

With social media emerging as a crucial tool for marketing and communication, posts on these platforms have turned into a vital content source. Concentrate on specific social media posts or a series of posts that have garnered significant engagement. Subsequently, create a blog (or a series of blogs) that delves deeper into that topic. For instance, a Twitter thread providing tips or a popular LinkedIn post can be transformed into a more thorough and detailed article on your blog.

Repurposing Videos and Podcasts

If you’ve done a webinar, podcast, or video tutorial, you can transcribe and expand on the main points to create a detailed blog post. Not only does this give your audience a different format to consume the content, but it’s also great for SEO.

Repurposing Presentations

If you’ve created a slide deck for a presentation (listen up all of you boomers who lived and died on PowerPoints!), you can convert it into a blog post by elaborating on each slide in more detail. This works great for webinars, training events, conference presentations, or internal reports that contain valuable insights.

Repurposing other Content-Rich Resources

If you possess in-depth case studies, white papers, or reports, consider summarizing and converting them into concise, blog-friendly formats. Alternatively, you can divide each section of a case study, white paper, or report into a series of blog posts. Additionally, you can collect and compile insights from past blog posts or other industry experts to craft a comprehensive "round-up" post. For instance, if you've authored multiple posts on various facets of a topic, you can connect them in a single, well-structured post.

If you receive frequent questions through email, comments, or social media, turn those into a blog post answering them in detail. It’s an easy way to create useful content that solves problems for your audience.

Additionally, think about using positive customer testimonials or stories that can be developed into a comprehensive blog post. You might highlight how a product or service helped a customer through a detailed narrative, possibly incorporating quotes, statistics, or examples.

Start Repurposing Now

Repurposing allows you to reach a wider audience, cater to different preferences (written vs. visual vs. audio), and make the most of the content you’ve already produced. It also saves you time and effort by recycling and improving existing material.

How does that sound for your blog strategy?
